Slagelse is West Zealand's largest shopping town with shopping centres, cosy and attractive squares and lively café life. The town also has an active cultural life with Slagelse Teater, the region's largest auditorium, Krabasken, Denmark's largest amateur theatre and Slagelse Musikhus, with its fantastic concert hall.

 Just west of Slagelse is one of Denmark's most important and beautifully situated monuments from the Viking Age, the vikingfortress Trelleborg. En exciting and out-of-the-ordinary experience awaits the whole family. Visit Gerlev Legepark - an historic playground. In the winter you can visit Arena Cirkusland.  Slagelse was the town where Hans Christian Andersen attended the "Latin School" and the town remains an important seat of learnings to this day.  In the town centre, you can delight in the many sculptures and the changing art exhibitions at Det Røde Tårn (The red Tower).  Every wednesday at around 1pm - you can watch the "Garderhusarer" riding through the center of Slagelse.
