The church is in many ways the epitome of a typical Danish village church, whitewashed inside and outside, intimate and cosy at the same time. The tower clock has an interesting and very old still working clockwork that was already mentioned in 1661. The hymn writer B.S. Ingemann was married to his Lucie in Hyllested Church in 1822. In 1813 he wrote a poem in praise of the rectory at the time. The church is open seven days a week during the summer from 8 am until 17 pm.
